I have read quite a few articles bashing Harry Potter and other books of the genre. Do these people have no imagination? Articles like these convince even the non-religious people that fantasy (we don't even have to limit this to books concerning magic or the occult) is somehow bad for children. I remember my own father, who probably cannot remember the last time he sat through a church service, was making comments on how bad this was for children. What is the problem? Are children supposed to be limited to books and media that only tell the hard truth of life or the religious doctrine that mainstream society thinks is acceptable? From what I remember of being a child I would have went crazy if there were not books or shows that let me dream or imagine! That is part of the wonder of childhood. Children do not think like adults, and do not look for the wrong in something before anything else. It's as simple as this. Harry Potter is a wonderful fantasy series that lets children imagine and play. That's it. It's fun. They do not see perversions of the immaculate conception (as one article states). Children do not twist things around until it fits their own skewed view of the world. Adults are the ones that do that. Society definately needs to lighten up and maybe actually let children be children.

True Inanna...I've never heard them comment on Disney. Interesting.

Amy, personally, I have all the Harry Potter books. I bought them for me. I love 'em! And if anything...I think they'll teach children right and wrong. I mean, come on, bad man kills Harry's parents....thus, murder is bad and wrong. Harry's relatives keep him locked, at first, in a cupboard, then in his room (in subsequent stories)...thus, child abuse is bad. And scores of other points but that would take me all day to type. LOL.

Yes I have them too. They are definately among my favorite stories/movies. The Pagan UU group here in Columbia is having a Harry Potter party this Friday night in honor of the book launch. I'm planning on going if I don't have to work too late.

Actually the page on the Pope confused me. What was going on there? O.o I'm tired so I may not be understanding things real well...

I love Harry Potter, also. I've got a Harry Potter wand and I've tried all of the nasty flavors of Berni Bots Every Flavor Beans. (ummm... don't try them, honestly).

And if I had my Harry Potter robe I'd be wearing it tomorrow in celebration... I do have a sort of version of the Sorting Hat, though :) It's not the tan one, it's the black one.

But I have some green and black velvet garb that I can wear with my hat

Now lets hope nobody mobs me at the party tomorrow :)

*sniff sniff*

I don't have the money to pick the book up tomorrow.

I might have some by Saturday though, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

I made a robe, kinda inspired by Prof. Mogonagle's in the movie. Gads, but I'd love to have one professionally made like that. I mean, I can sew....kinda....but I'm real half-***ed about it when I'm in a hurry..and that's usually all the time. I have very little patience most of the time. I'm just lucky, I guess, that Dave's cloak turned out so very nicely. My own....not as good.

"This book is 'anti --Christ' and provides an easy entry into the murky and corrupt world of occultism, priming children up for possibly something much more sinister later on such as paganism, witchcraft, sorcery, black magic and different branches of occultism."

When will these people just shut up and give it a rest?
