Responsibility in Satanism: Part 2

The Satanist does not pray for things to happen. He/she considers it the mark of complacency. If we are broke then we figure out a way to get more money or, we simply do not complain about our circumstances. It is our responsibility to change our circumstances and immediate environment if we are not content with it.

If something is beyond our control, we do not ask “god” (if you choose to call it that) for help because we do not believe that “god” cares about our joy or sorrow. We do not believe in “waiting upon god” for anything. There are those who are unhappy with their circumstances but, because they lack the initiative to do anything about it, they pray for “Divine intervention” and leave it at that, never once considering that it is their duty to see that it gets done.

“God, help me I’m depressed, I want to be happy! Says the man sitting in a darkened room listening to somber music. He’ll pray and weep until fatigue finally sets in and then sleeps until it’s time to repeat the whole charade. SNAP OUT OF IT!. Everyone gets depressed, but generally the sensation can be lessened if measures are taken to change your immediate environment. (This of course does not include persons suffering from clinical depression.) But, some common sense is required, not a lot, but some.

Even more so annoying than the person who relies upon their prayers to achieve what they could usually accomplish with minimal effort, are the “prayer warriors” These come in groups usually and are dead set on forcing gods hand “thy will be done”. For all the hours spent and people involved in fighting this spiritual war, they could very simply use that same network of “prayer warriors” to actually get of their prostrated butts and actually do something about it. But then, that’s not faith is it. :D

None of this should indicate that the Satanist does not believe in or practice magick … our approach is simply to put the wheels in motion for achievement, but we do not rely solely upon our spell to do our work for us. Even a devout Christian will tell you, “faith without works is dead”

Responsibility to the Responsible, means just that. That where there is responsibility, action must be taken by the responsible parties.

Ave Satanas.
