Ok, so any of you that know me know that I really don't follow politics the way some people do. But I do follow the news, and I listen to what both sides say. Then I form an opinion based on my own obersvations.
Recently I joined a Yahoo! Group called Pagans Across America. I figured what the hey, at least I may find some new interesting people to get some ideas from. (not that any of you aren't interesting, mind you) Today I had the misfortune to receive an email digest from the group in which one of the members brought up the recent closed session in the senate. She went on to describe how she watched all day "with glee" as the Democrats basically were sticking it to the Republicans.
Well, me being me and really having a pet peeve about stupid statements like that...I had to respond. Quoting the news article where Republican Majority leader called this a political stunt, I stated to her that this is exactly what it is. It doesn't matter which side did it...it is still a political stunt to get news agencies to start firing off conspiracy theories and conjecture to get people stirred up. I would hazard a guess that anywhere between 85-90% of Congress (both Senate and House) are power hungry media whores that are more afraid of losing their perceived power than they care about the people they were elected to represent. It doesn't matter what side they are on.
But still, many Pagans today seem to believe that they would get a better deal if the Democrats were in charge. Personally, I don't think so. I don't think it would be any different. You don't hear the Democrats on Capitol Hill denouncing the phrase "Under God" in the pledge, do you? No, they faithfully stand there and recite the pledge alongside the "evangelical" Republicans.
No, the Democrats don't care any more for Pagans than anybody else. They care about one thing. Control. They want to be the ones in charge and make all the rules. It's like a frigging preschool sandbox. Nobody wants to play together because they have to share their toys ang get along.
