This is actuallya series of books by author Laurell K. Hamilton. There are currently 11 books in the series with #12 due out this year.

The series is all about Anita Blake, vampire slayer, animator (this means she raises zombies for a living), and necromancer. She is also on retainer to the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team, RPIT, affectionately known as Rip-It or just RIP. Anita helps them solve crimes the regular cops just don't deal with. Vampire murders, lycanthrope attacks, zombies and ghouls running amok...you name it, she's probably involved.

I love this series and have every book in it so far. Think of this series as if you went to bed tonight and woke up tomorrow morning and all the things that go bump in the night where real. Vampires, werewolves, ghouls, trolls, zombies...etc. (Even witches, lol) It's modern day America, and there's even a movement to give vampires the vote. This is a very edgey series, and a very graphic one as well. Those with weak stomachs should probably not like this series. I personally rate this series with 4 Stars! (I consider them also kinda pagan because they do have witches and other things involved in some of the stories.)
