I've been thinking alot more on the 'sciency' end of things lately. I guess that's what one would call it... anyway, this has been one of my thoughts. I just came up with this idea yesterday, so I'll probably sound scattered, but I want to know what you all think:
I've often wondered what made moon magic 'work'. Why is the waning moon good to do spells to get rid of things? Why is the full moon the most powerful? At first I thought it was due to the light of the sun, lighting it up, empowering it. I'm not going to rule that out, but I thought of something else...
Water. Water is a big deal. Water has been the main source of my magic related thoughts lately.
The moon controls the tides on earth. I don't know which phases of the moon does what, I need to look that up... but we, humans, are - what - 80-90% water? What if, when we're including the moon in our magic, that we're taking advantage of what the moon is doing to our bodies?
Does that make sense? That is just one of the things I've been thinking on water lately... I think I'll post this on my website along with my other thoughts, like on salt and such. Then I need to figure out how to start researching it all.

Yes, I've considered it. Never knew exactly how to put it in words though.
I mean, I know how many witches talk about being in balance with all the elements, but for me, water just......I don't know....does it. Maybe it's just being a pisces, I don't know, but water just has this appeal to me.
I have a book on moon magick...but it doesn't really get into all this. It just more or less goes through the months, some history, some crafts, some recipes....that's it. Ehh...time to look for a better book.

Aww, the URL isn't working for me. I'll have to try to remember to check back with it later.
As for water... the more I've been learning about it lately, the most I'm fascinated with it. But I'm an Air sign and I'd rather fly than swim LOL
Speaking of water though, you guys hear anything about that guy that was studying how thoughts actually affect water? FASCINATING!!!

Yep, when one directed happy, positive thoughts at the water before it was frozen, nice, pretty, and symetrical crystals formed. Sad and negative thoughts produced random, chaotic crystalline structures.
Actually, I'm getting ready to type up an artical for next months newsletter that includes this bit of info.

I heard about it at an herb/crystal shop in town and a lady was telling me about it and showing me his book.
Then I finally got to see What the Bleep do We Know and they were talking about it there. Groovy stuff, man.

Ok that movie 'What the Bleep do we know' is also a book - found it at Barnes and Nobles (24.99) I believe. As for the Moon Magick - heres what I know..
Waning Moon - banishing negativity - because the Moon is leaving, the lore is that when we do this type of magick now, the negativity wil flow away with the moon.
New Moon - beginnings - the same applies here - new moon is equal to bringing in positivity
Full Moon - highest time for magick - and yes this does have to do with the tides and water - a person, if you notice, is a little 'odd' during this time of the month, this is due to the 'power' the moon has over our physical bodies, the water in other words. Take a look at animals, insects etc, they all act a little odd also. Magick and the Moon is strong due to our lunar pulls - our bodies pull to the lunar closeness to the earth.
Waxing - love, wealth, etc - again, the lunar pull and closing, coming in etc
Dark Moon - some say this is the time of month to do nothing, others say go ahead - I say it is the time to relax as the body needs to refuel itself at this time.
The actual "essence" of the power used in Moon Magic, originates out among the stars. The Sun draws in the stellar influences and transmits them into our Solar System. The Planets within our System absorb this energy which then merges with their own vibrations or energies. The Planets, in turn, then emanate a composite energy within our Solar System. Each Planet's energy or vibratory pattern is unique, and influences other planetary bodies and forces, within each planet's sphere of influence. This is the basis of Astrology and Planetary correspondences in Magic (this is how and why it works). The Moon is the focal point of power upon the Earth. The Moon absorbs, condenses, and channels all of these forces, which are then carried to our Planet, upon the Lunar Light Spectrum. Without the Moon we cannot make use of the Universal Forces beyond her. In Moon Magic, the ritual altar is the focal point for the Lunar forces which are drawn upon. Women are the vessels for Lunar Energy, receiving and directing the magical force. Men can also become lunar vessels, but women are much better suited (as their biology is more attuned to the Moon's Cycles, than are men's biology). Agrippa, a 15th Century magician, understood these principles when he wrote
"...but the Moon, the nearest to the heavenly influences, by the swiftness of her course, is joined to the sun, and the other planets and stars, as a conception, bringing them forth to the inferior world, as being next to itself, for all the stars have influence on it, being the last receiver, which afterwards communicates the influence of all superiors to these inferiors, and pours them forth upon the Earth..."
