i was just wondering if anyone there would like to share what they do to help the enviroment, just the everyday things , personally i compost all vegetable matter, and use this later as potting mix, or just mix it in my garden to enrich the soil, i then dont have to use chemical fertilisers.
yes lady, i too recycle, also a friend told me that she uses newspaper instead of plastic weed mat in her garden to stop the weeds coming through, i havent tried it yet myself, but it sounds good.
My wife and I do a ton of different things; we really, really like momma terra. We do conscious shopping. We only buy organic food items, no matter the cost difference, because there aren't harmful chemicals used in its production. All cleaning supplies and thing of that nature have to be all natural and biodegradle/ecofriendly etc. Basically I should be able to drink the stuff lol. It is more expensive, but I'd rather give up other things to make sure what goes into my body and my environment and my home isn't harmful to anyone anywhere. (Forget buying at Walmart and the mall, make your own stuff!)
We have energy efficient light bulbs everywhere, and no I don't mean the horrible yellow light things. These bulbs are all flourescent, but coated to keep the spectrum range wide, similar to the sun. This cuts down on electricity usage in a major way, which in turn cuts down on fossil fuel burning at the electricity production plant. (I know we're one small family, but every little bit helps.)
Next year we are signing up for 50% wind power. It simply means that we pay the same utility bill plus a small extra fee, like $5 a month, and 1/2 the energy we use will be put back on the grid by a windmill, thus we are paying for wind generated energy! This means 1/2 the fossil fuels burned for us this year, won't be next year. We live in an apartment so I can't hookup solar panels or stuff like that, but when we do have a home...
We're looking at getting a Ford Escape Hybrid for our business to haul our stuff back and forth.(http://www.roseandcrowne.com) We recycle what we can out here, but Colorado Springs has no mandatory program so no pick ups and very few drop off points. Also, in my opinion, too many pagans portray being earth-centric, but don't really do anything different than others around them. So I'd like to say thank you to those pagans out there who do compost, and shop/live consiously (maybe I should right articles on consious shopping/living to help those who don't see that it isn't tough and doesn't have to be costly?).

i agree with you thor that many pay lip service to being eco concious , but few do anything,i think sometimes people become overwhelmed by how much damage we have done to mother earth and they just give up, but if every family does as yours is doing we could all look foreward to a cleaner and better future
I go to the beach, I take my medation matt with me and find a quiet place and meditate for half an hour to an hour, just listening to the waves crashing against the beach.
During my meditation i think of the earth being healed. I think of the world as a human, I see scares on it and I think of the closing and healing, it may help it may not.
I also recycle as much as I can, reuse paper that others may throw away, stuff that has only been printed on one side. I try and by things that have been recycled, like paper and loo roll.
We recycle, buy primarly organic foods and environmentally friendly products, walk instead of driving when possible. Reuse containers before recycling (when it's practical). Considering getting a hybrid; however it costs money and it requires not wasting your vehicle that still runs decently in order for it to be eco-aware. So, we care for it as best we can to keep it the most efficient we can until we can maybe donate it or trade it in for our hybrid -or hopefully something better by then. We use those spectrum energy efficient bulbs too. :> And I pay additional each month to obtain 100% of our energy obtained by renewable resources. The usual, reduce use of water and electricity, reuse grocery bags, recycle what your city can recycle. It's great to see others working on the same things! It makes it feel less pointless from being overwhelmed -as you pointed out dana, don't you think?

I do a few things actually.
I dont use cleaners of any type (boughten or organic) as I use a steam cleaner. It is actually more economic and you dont have to worry about waste of any kind. Instead of paper products (ie paper towels, napkins, plates, silverware) I use cotton cloths for cleaning and do not use plastic silverware at any time. As for electricity, this household maintains a steady thought - If your not in the room, the light doesnt need to be on" and we use evergy efficent bulbs as well. Alot of our foods are grown here in our yard and I can throughout the year. (We are all vegetarians - thus no meats are consumed). I try to think in this frame of mind - ' if my ancestors did without it - can I?' and ' if my ancestors cleaned, cooked, etc that way, can I?' Other than a few things, yeah, I go without .
